§ 14-14. Manure pits or bins.

  • (a)

    Required. Any person owning, operating or controlling the use of any building or part of building, or any place within the city, who has one or more horses, mules, cows, or other like animals kept on the premises, shall maintain in connection therewith a bin or pit in which manure from such animals shall be placed pending removal.

    (b)

    Location. Such bin or pit shall be located at a point most remote from any dwelling or other structure owned or occupied by others than the owner of the premises mentioned and from any street, alley, or avenue, etc.

    (c)

    Removal of manure. It shall be unlawful for any person to hold such manure on the premises in such bins or pits after two days from the date of written notice from the sanitary inspector to remove the same; provided, however, that any person may use such manure upon the premises for the purpose of enriching the ground or for any other use when the same is not offensive or unsanitary, and provided further that any person maintaining such bins or pits as required by this section may remove manure for any use where such manure has not become offensive or unsanitary. All vehicles used for the removal of such manure shall be so constructed as to prevent the same from being dropped, spilled or otherwise scattered along the streets or public places in the city.
